Random lyrics fun
Because my Number One Internet Fanboy did it, I must do it too.
Step 1: Get your playlist together, put it on random, and play.
Step 2: Pick your favorite lines from the first 20 songs that play.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from.
Step 4: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
1. This world’s a tortured place to be / So many things to torment me / And as I stumble down this road it takes a toll
2. Breathing in lighting / Tonight’s for fighting / I feel the hurt so physical
3. Get out of my head / Get off of my bed / Yeah, that’s what I said4. I remember the look in your eyes / When I told you that this was goodbye / You were begging me not tonight / Not here, not now (Jaz got this one: Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard)5. Eagle flew out of the night / He was something to observe / Came in close, I heard a voice / Standing, stretching, every nerve / I had to listen, I had no choice (Laura got this - one of my very favorite songs: Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel)
6. What I wouldn’t give to find a soulmate / Someone else to catch this drift / And what I wouldn’t give to meet a kindred7. Why do you hurt me so bad? / It would help me to know / Do I stand in your way, or am I the best thing you’ve had? (Jaz again: Love is a Battlefield by Pat Benetar)8. Even though I know / I don’t want to know / Yeah I guess I know / I just hate how it sounds (Jaz yet again: One Thing by Finger Eleven)9. I’m burnin’, burnin’, I got the fever / I know for sure, there ain’t no cure / So feel it, don’t fight it, go with the flow / Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme one more for the road (And still another from Jaz: Pyromania by Def Leppard)10. Get the kids and bring a sweater / Dry is good and wind is better / Count the years, you always knew it / Strike a match, go on and do it (Jade nailed this one: Sunny Came Home by Shawn Colvin)11. And no matter how hard I try / I can’t escape these things inside I know / When all the pieces fall apart / You will be the only one who knows (Oh look, Jaz got this one too: Let Me Go by 3 Doors Down)12. I wonder if you care / I wonder if you still remember / Once upon a time (Guess who: Your Wildest Dreams by The Moody Blues)13. I know that I must do what’s right / Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti / I seek to cure what’s deep inside / Frightened of this thing that I’ve become (Laura again: Africa by Toto)
14. How could I be so blind to this addiction / If I don’t stop the next one’s gonna be me / Only emptiness remains / It replaces all, all the pain15. The turn I have just taken / The turn that I was making / I might be just beginning / I might be near the end (Another for Jade: Anywhere Is by Enya)16. That’s why it hurts so bad to hear the words / That keep on falling from your mouth (Another from Laura: Why by Annie Lennox)
17. Ooh she’s such a good find / Have you gone and lost your mind / You should know she’s one of a kind 18. Come stand a little bit closer / Breathe in and get a bit higher / You’ll never know what hit you when / I get to you (Molly got this one: I Want You by Savage Garden)19. What have I become / My sweetest friend / Everyone I know / Goes away in the end (And Molly got this one: Hurt by NIN or Johnny Cash - I have both versions)
20. Nothing’s gonna change the things that you said / Nothing’s gonna make this right again / Please don’t turn your back / I can’t believe it’s hard / Just to talk to you / But you don’t understand

Sorry Anthony, the guesses were wrong (I’ve never even heard of The Tubes, I suppose I’m terribly pedestrian). I’m surprised that nobody’s gotten #6 or #19, since they were incredibly overplayed on the radio when they were hits.

Well, # 6 is Alanis Morrisette, but i can’t remember the name of the song… As for # 19, it’s “Hurt” by NIN from the album Downward Spiral

OH! I was just looking at them again and #7 is Pat Bentar “Love is a Battlefield”.

help me, i forgot how to do the cross out stuff online! that’s a little hint about the first random tune i played, a little jingle by Joni Mitchell from “Court and Spark”. Screw me, I’m old and this weather’s getting sucky again and I detest menopause and that fucking assed boyfriend of mine who wrote me the nastiest e-mail of a lifetime. He’s about to receive the cyber break-up e-mail, but I’m cutting him a little slack while he licks his dick.

The strikeout tag is this:
For the closing tag, add this prior to the “s”: /
May 31st, 2005 at 11:20 am
Well, that didn’t work. Okay, use the “less than” sign and the letter “s” and the “greater than” sign.

sorry, anthony, for beating you on the toto one. i believe that you were thinking of “she’s a beauty” by the tubes. i LOVE that song!!! lil, i’m going to zip it and send to you!
hey, ro, how did the cyberbreakup go? just curious…

10 - Shawn Colvin “Sunny Came Home” - Thank you to 107.5 for playing that one every day when I lived in Portland
15 - Enya “Anywhere Is” - excellent for Yoga

The Tubes were a San Francisco band which never really got that big nationally. Laura is right, the song I was thinking of *is* “She’s a beauty”.
I *really* suck at lyrics quizzes, not just the really hard ones that my friend T posts (he’s “purchasemonkey” on LJ). Actually being able to guess one of these was pretty good for me.

Well crap! Now that the answer for #15 is up, I know it *grin*
#6 is All I Really Want by Alanis Morisette — Yay!! I finally got one!!

Laura, the cyberbreakup thing never happened. Luigi and I are still battling it out via e-mail. Yesterday he sent me three more scathers. I replied with sweetness and light and something that will make his cock be swollen for days. I swear to goodness the man gets off on fighting then kissing and making up. It must be something he learned from his adoptive parents.
