 Caffeine is my friend

The producers & writers of Battlestar Galactica had better pull their heads out of their asses tout de suite, or they’ll lose their cash cow — because stalwart fans such as myself will turn into fickle former fans, if they kill off the best damned character on the show.

Alrighty, got that little rant out of the way. Now for the Monday update!

I was awake at six-fraking-ay-em this morning! Anxiety had to be at school a full hour earlier than usual, to leave for the 8th-grade Retreat. I’m not sure what they’re retreating from (parents, perhaps?), but they sure retreated early in the day. Once I dropped her off, I zipped out to the office-supply superstore to obtain more ink for my printer. (Now that I have a fair idea of how much it costs to print a sheet of text, I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be less trouble & expense to have the printer cartridges filled with liquid gold. Somebody is making a killing on those!)

I took Geoffrey to work today, so I could have the car to get a few things done. On the way to his work, we stopped at the bank to deposit his paycheck — but his boss had neglected to sign it, so they wouldn’t take it. Good thing we didn’t absolutely have to have it deposited today!

After dropping him at work, I zipped out to the pet-supplies superstore. Every critter in the house got something today (except Fido because I completely spaced on the rat-sicles I meant to grab for her — now that we’ve established that she will, quite happily, eat dead food — we don’t have to buy live rats anymore, yay!). I grabbed a new sisal-rope claw-sharpener for the kitties, since their previous one has been in tatters for weeks now. For Bun-Bun, I got a bag of bunny bedding that’s supposed to be better than anything else in the universe for bunnies. We’ll see. But the critter that got the most goodies was Peyo! I found a type of lizard chow that’s specifically formulated for juvenile bearded dragon lizards, and he loves it. Also I got him a can of small crickets and a can of mealworms, for treats. (Bugs & worms as snackfood…having pets is fun! But quite often stinky.)

Then the highlight of the day — Powell’s! Of course, the Burnside Bridge was closed, so I had to deal with a stupid roundabout way of getting there, which meant that I encountered every bad driver there was in downtown Portland this morning. Getting back across the river was even more fun (where “fun” = “insane fury”). Some jerk stole a parking spot out from underneath me (he was behind me, and I had my turn signal on, indicating that I was going to parallel-park, and when I pulled forward just a smidge, he zipped right into the spot!), and I would have gladly accepted the bad karma resulting from the keying I was planning on giving his car if it hadn’t been for another open parking spot two car-lengths down the block. As I walked past him on my way into the bookstore, I couldn’t decide if I preferred advising him that he was a fucking asshole, or smiling sweetly (evilly) & saying I hoped he had as good a day as he deserved, so I opted for the more-dignified option of ignoring him entirely.

I took in a huge box of books (of which they selected about 1/5 that they were willing to buy), and then did a bit of shopping on the store credit I got for my unwanted books. Despite my lukwarm reaction to the Dresden Files TV series, Geoffrey has gotten me hooked on the books (which are phenomenally better than the show), so I grabbed a few of those. A few other typical selections (filling in the gaps in my collections of Robert Heinlein, Marion Zimmer Bradley, F.M. Busby, and Eric Flint) rounded out the haul. I’m going to see about getting rid of the Powell’s rejects on eBay.

Spring doesn’t officially start for a few more weeks, but apparently somebody didn’t get the memo, because it was actually warmer outside than inside, for a brief while today. That was just weird. Wasn’t it snowing a month ago?! Freaky.

More coffee…must drink more coffee. Six-fraking-ay-em!

So… should I check out the Dresden Files books, or not? (I actually didn’t mind the first episode of the series too badly, but on the other hand I didn’t like it enough to actually seek out more.)
