 So tell me…

The cats continue to be a constant source of entertainment! Zadya got very interested in what was going on when I fed little Peyo today (the bearded dragon lizard). She seems to think I should let him out to run around:

A few days ago, I got a great pic of the tabby cats almost sleeping together:

Zadya isn’t as interested in sharing catnaps as Hasani is. Here’s a pic of how I typically find the two younger cats:

In other news, I’ve been ridiculously productive in recent days. I got onto the Oregon Prescription Drug Program, which is for any Oregonians who don’t have prescription drug coverage (with or without health insurance). It’s so simple to apply, one page to print out, sign & date, and that’s it! I also got an application sent off to hopefully get Anxiety on the Oregon Health Plan…I should have done that a year ago, really. At least it’s taken care of now.

And I finished filing my taxes! My federal refund was less than half of the refunds I’ve gotten for the last couple of years, since my eldest basically supported herself last year and I couldn’t claim her as a dependent. But my refund this year will still be enough to pay all of Anxiety’s Catalina Island trip (over $800), pay for my next tattoo (scheduled for Feb. 15th), and leave me a smidgen left over for a (small) book-shopping spree! I’m going to hit Moonshadow first, and maybe Powell’s if I still have any money left.

So, that said, I need recommendations for Pagan/Wiccan books! I’ve got quite a few, but always looking for more that are intelligent & well-written. My income tax will probably show up around Feb. 10th (gotta love direct deposit!).

Oh gosh, not MoonShadow, that creepy place up the street from me. You’ll be greeted by a fake frog and fake Wiccans, imho. It’s all good about Stonehenge, saw a blip about it on TV earlier last night. It’s good to be a card carrying Druid. Am off to bury myself in Obama, Rule, Steinbeck, Bradbury…

    Some suggestions:

My all-time favorite Pagan book is “The Wiccan Path” by Rae Beth. It’s a beginner’s book, but it’s written in such an interesting way, with a different viewpoint, and I really enjoy it.

Have you read “Witch Crafting” by Phyllis Curott? It’s also supposed to be a beginner’s book, and it does cover a lot of that ground, but it’s also got stuff for those of us who’ve been doing it awhile.

“Witchcraft: Theory and Practice” by Ly de Angeles is very good.

“Circle Within: Creating a Wiccan Spiritual Tradition” by Dianne Sylvan really impressed me.

Also, “The Elements of Ritual” by Deborah Lipp had me highlighting like crazy.

    Well, there’s some. LOL

Thank you Jaz! I have “Circle Within” (and like it lots!), and I’ve been wanting to get “The Elements of Ritual” for a while now. I will definitely check out your other recommendations, too!

I realized this is off topic, but I bumped into this site and feel compelled to comment. I am glad that the taxpayers of this great state are contributing enough so that you are able to set enough funds aside for a tattoo. . . I mean, really.

First of all, I have not been on any kind of financial assistance in over 10 years, despite getting zero child support and raising 2 kids on my own since my husband died 14 years ago. Second, the taxpayers have NOTHING to do with the Oregon Prescription Drug Program, which is not an assistance program, but rather a subsidy of the prescription drug companies — it does NOT cost the state or the taxpayers one cent. And my tax refund check was a result of me working to support my family; however, like over 20% of the nation’s employed citizens, I do not have health insurance through my employer.

So get off your high horse.

That link is to the Oregon Health Plan, which is a state financial assistance program. Nobody on my family is on that program, nor has anyone in my family been on it for over 10 years (which is partly why I’m still paying off my children’s medical bills — of over $1500 — that were incurred while I was uninsured…doesn’t sound like I’m sponging off the government, now does it?). Here’s the link to the Oregon Prescription Program: http://egov.oregon.gov/DAS/OHPPR/OPDP/ — which is NOT funded by taxpayers, and ALL Oregonians without full prescription drug coverage (at any income level) are eligible, because it is nothing more than a “discount” card. I have the card in my wallet, but since my pharmacy (Costco) doesn’t take the card, I still pay full price for drugs such as Imitrex, which have no generic and which are absolutely necessary for me to function.
